When to Schedule EV Charger Service

Call us if your charger won’t start at all, or if charging stops partway through or seems slower than it should. A breaker that trips repeatedly or equipment that feels hot to the touch both need a look before you use the charger again.

A fault light or error code on the unit, visible damage to the cable, connector, or mounting hardware, and Wi-Fi, app, or firmware problems are all reasons to schedule a visit. It’s also worth a checkup any time you’ve had panel work, a new standby generator, solar, or other smart-home equipment added to your home, since any of those can change how your charger behaves.

What a Residential Diagnostic Visit Covers

We start by asking what you’ve noticed, when it started, and what’s changed recently. From there, we do a visual inspection of the charger, cable, connector, and mounting, followed by electrical checks on the circuit feeding it.

We also check the charger’s firmware, its Wi-Fi connection, and its app pairing, since a number of charging issues trace back to a dropped connection instead of a wiring problem. You’ll get written findings and a clear recommendation before any repair work starts.

Routine Maintenance Checklist

You can safely do some of this yourself. Take a look at the cable and connector for cracks or fraying, confirm the charger’s enclosure looks intact, and check that the app still shows your charger online.

Everything past that belongs to a qualified electrician: we check the breaker and wiring feeding the charger, verify grounding, inspect the mounting and weather sealing, confirm firmware is current, and finish with a test charge to confirm the unit performs the way it should. Don’t open an energized charger or attempt any high-voltage work yourself. That part of the job is ours.

REPAIRS, REPLACEMENT, AND MANUFACTURER WARRANTY

We can diagnose and repair most issues with your home charger’s wiring, mounting, connections, and the circuit feeding it. Some problems, like an internal component failure inside the charger itself, have to go through the manufacturer rather than through us directly.

Keep your charger’s model number, serial number, any error code it displayed, and your original purchase or installation record on hand. Having that information ready speeds up both our diagnosis and any manufacturer claim you need to file.

Tesla Wall Connector Service

As a Tesla Energy Certified Installer, we service Tesla Wall Connector installations to Tesla’s own standards, including firmware checks, app pairing, and the electrical connections behind the unit.

If you drive a different EV and charge on a universal Level 2 charger, the same diagnostic and maintenance process applies. Our Licensed Master Electricians check the equipment and the electrical work behind it either way.

After-Service Confirmation

Every service visit ends with a test charge to confirm the fix worked under real conditions. We review your charger’s settings, reconnect it to your Wi-Fi and app if needed, and walk you through what we found and what we did before we leave. You’ll get documentation of the visit for your records, including anything you should watch for going forward.

Residential EV Charging FAQ

Most home chargers benefit from a checkup at least once a year, though usage and location can change that. A charger installed outdoors or used daily may need more frequent attention than one in a garage used a few times a week.

Slow or failed charging usually traces back to a circuit issue, a connection problem at the charger or vehicle, or a software glitch in the firmware or app. We check all three during a diagnostic visit to find the actual cause.

Stop using the charger and call us before you reset the breaker again. A breaker that trips repeatedly is usually a sign of an electrical issue that needs a proper diagnosis, not a one-time fluke.

Yes, a fault light or error code is one of the most common reasons homeowners call us. We check the code against the charger’s electrical connections, firmware, and wiring to find out what triggered it.

Yes. As a Tesla Energy Certified Installer, we service Tesla Wall Connectors to Tesla’s own standards, and we also diagnose and maintain universal Level 2 chargers for other EV brands.

Yes, every diagnostic and maintenance visit includes a check of the panel, the wiring and breaker feeding the charger, grounding, and the connections at the charger itself. Those checks catch most of the issues that don’t show up just by looking at the unit.

Yes, many charging complaints trace back to a dropped Wi-Fi connection, outdated firmware, or an app that’s lost its pairing with the charger rather than an electrical fault. We check all three as part of every diagnostic visit.

We can help you document the issue and point you toward the manufacturer when a problem needs to go through a warranty claim. We don’t guarantee warranty coverage or a free replacement, since those decisions belong to the manufacturer.
